On the 26th of March, Stanley Avenue students joined 12 other schools in Paeroa to compete in the Thames Valley Rippa Rugby tournament, which had been postponed from 2009. We sent one year 5 and 6 team and one Year 7 and 8 team, both of which competed extremely well.
Both teams faced some tough competition during the round robins, however, with much determination from the students both teams had successfully made it through to the championship semi finals. Unfortunately our Year 7 and 8 were unable to make to the final and ended being beaten 6 tries to 5 by Parawhai School, who were eventual champions. However, it was our Year 5 and 6 team that triumphed and managed to successfully make it through to the final and end up victors of the Thames Valley Year 5 and 6 Competition. A huge congratulation goes out to those boys and girls.
There were many highlights throughout the day, however, some that come to mind was the year 5 and 6 teams game against Waihi Beach where they were losing by 2 tries and ended up winning by 2. Matthew Millwards Length of the field tries, Tayla Sweeney’s try saving rips and Shannon Crene’s effective straight line running.
A enormous thank you to Mr Gore and Mr Ryburn for looking after the teams throughout the day. As well, Mrs Crene, Mrs Ryburn, Mr Thompson, Mrs Graumans, Mrs Oliver-Clarke, Mrs Hadden for their assistance with Transport and support throughout the day.
