Hi there and welcome to our Rugby Page.
On Wednesday the 16th June , Stanley Avenue students joined 12 other schools in Paeroa to compete in the Thames Valley Tackle Rugby tournament. We sent one year 5 and 6 team and one Year 7 and 8 team, both of which competed extremely well.
After the 1st round
it
was looking very promising for both teams as they clocked up 2 convincing wins. However, as the tournament progressed the competition stiffened and both teams faced some hard tackling and hard running boys. Our boys were up to the challenge and they gave as good as they got.
Having 2 wins and 2 loses the Year 7 and 8 team narrowly missed out on making the semi finals and eventually finished 5th with a convincing win over Paeroa Central 45-5. Our Year 5 and 6 boys went through their round robin competition undefeated having 2 comfortable wins and 2 draws, thus putting them trough to the semi finals.
Into the semifinals and the boys were up against Waihi East school. Unfortunately after what was the most intense game of the competition for them Waihi East scored in similar style as the All Whites did against Slovakia, in the last seconds of the game, leaving the final score 10-5 to Waihi East.
It was a fabulous day and all the boys thoroughly enjoyed themselves. A large thank you to Mr Gore, Mrs van Byserveldt, Mr Brown and Mrs Thompson for their support and help with the day.
Player of the days:
Year 5 and 6 - Kerry Lusby
Year 7 and 8 - Aisake Veatupu
